If you already decide to get yourself a Netherland dwarf rabbit, you might wonder if it's a good idea to keep you bunny in a cage inside your home. Since you'll be keeping the rabbit in a cage inside your house, separated from the outside world, you might think that it seem like a cruel thing to do to your bunny and can't decide whether to keep the bunny inside or outside of your house.

If you get yourself a bunny, it is more better to keep it inside your home. Even if it look like you're separating your bunny from the outside world, keeping your bunny inside your house is not a cruel thing to do. In fact, it is better to keep the rabbit inside for a couple of reasons :

The predator
Other animal outside of your house can be dangerous to your rabbit. Some of them might think of your rabbit as their prey. Your bunny can get hurt or even eaten by other animals if you left him outside of your home. Even if you're keeping them in a cage outside, other predator animals might be able to find a way to get into the cage to harm your rabbit.

The weather
Sometime the weather could be either too hot or to cold for your bunny to handle. Keeping your rabbit inside can save him or her from the extreme weather outside of your home. Keeping the bunny in cage inside can make them more comfortable during extreme weather.

Keeping your Netherland dwarf rabbit in a cage indoor is good for your bunny safety and comfort. However, don't forget to let your bunny out daily to play around more freely. Also, don't forget to supervise your rabbit if you let him out to make sure your bunny didn't go to far or get lost.

Is it okay to let my Netherland dwarf bunnies run freely around the house?

Pets is not just an animals, most people see their pets as part of their family. Because of this, most pets are let free by their owner to play around the house. What's more, pets such as cats and dogs seem smart enough not to mess up with their owner property or cause injury to themselves if they're let free. (Despite the fact sometime they do cause a few broken vase)

But that is for cats and dogs, how about a Netherland dwarf rabbit? Will it be OK for you to let your bunny play freely around the house? Or will your bunnies get lost or run away if you let it free around your home?

Since pets usually considered as part of the family, a lot of people would love the let their pet playing around freely. But for a Netherland dwarf rabbit, letting it out freely around the house without any supervision is NOT a bright idea.

There is a lot of problem that can occur if you let your bunny free without supervision. Unlike cats or dogs, Netherland dwarf rabbit is not smart enough to learn to stay in place. Because of their size, you might accidentally step on them if you didn't see them coming.

Also, you dwarf bunny might run away if somehow you forget to properly close the doors. Beside that, rabbit chewing behavior make it even more dangerous for them to play around the house without you to look over them. Imagine what will happen if you dwarf bunny is chewing an electrical wire.

As an owner of the rabbit, ofcouse we will want to let our bunny to play around freely. But it is not good for the bunny itself to let free without any supervision. A rabbit pet need it owner supervision and companion to stay safe and happy. Remember that we need to make the safety of our bunny as our priority.

Should you put a collar on your Netherland dwarf rabbit?

It will be fun to put a collar on your Netherland dwarf rabbit, it even has bell too. A collar can help you to prevent your rabbit from running away when you take her/him out for some fresh air and maybe your bunny will even love the sound of it.

Beside that, you can easily spot her/him if your bunny get lost. That's why a lot of rabbit's owner want to put a collar on their bunny. However, as fun and helpful as it seem, it is really not a good idea to put a collar on your bunny.

It is very dangerous to put a collar on your rabbit. If your bunny get scared, it might break it own neck. Imagine how fast a rabbit run when it get scared, a collar pulling against the rabbit's neck at that kind of speed can cause injury.

If you want to take your rabbit out side for some fresh air and exercise, there is a safer alternative - a covered exercise pen. A covered exercise pen is a great piece of equipment as it can protect your rabbit and prevent it from running away or get lost.

What's more, some rabbit don't even like to go out side. So, if your Netherland dwarf rabbits are afraid to go out side, don't force your bunny. You don't want your rabbit to get stressed by forcing him/her to do something it don't want to do.

Sure, a collar will look cute on your bunny. But it can cause harm and very dangerous for your rabbit. When it come to rabbit care, safety is your number one priority. Unlike cats or dogs, a collar is not suitable for a rabbit.

Can Netherland dwarf get along with other rabbit breeds?

Some Netherland dwarf rabbit owners is so exited about getting their bunny some new friends. Maybe your neighbor own a rabbit just like you do, and you think you want to introduce them to each other. In fact, many rabbit owners think it is so adorable when their rabbit get along with other pet.

But what if your neighbor’s bunny are not from the same breed? Can a Netherland dwarf rabbit play along with other type of rabbit? Despite your excitement of course you don't want your rabbit to get in trouble or cause some trouble when introduced to the neighbor’s pet.

They can get along some day but it going to take times. As you might already know, rabbit is a territorial animals and will try to show their domination over other rabbit especially if one of the rabbits are older or not neutered. However, a proper introduction to each other can help to get along nicely especially if one or both of the rabbits has been neutered.

To introduce them to each other, it will be safer to have them meet on natural ground and let them see and get to know each other bit by bit. Do not put your rabbit into other rabbit's cage and expect them to play together nicely. That is unlikely to happen. And remember not to put non-spayed male and female rabbit together unless you're trying to do some rabbit breeding.

It is possible to get your rabbit to play along with other breed of rabbit. But you must do it slowly and cautiously. Do not try to force the relationship between your bunny and it “friend”. They will need some time to accept each other but there is chances that they will finally get along just fine. The idea is to let them know and trust each other.

How high can a Netherland dwarf jump?

Small animals such as rabbits and hamster are not as smart or as obedient as dogs or cats. As a rabbit owner, you will have to watch over them as often as you can and if you're not home or out for work, you will need to put them in a hutch or rabbit pens for their own safety. Even when you're letting your bunny out at your back yard, you need to keep your eye on him/her to make sure s/he is OK.

However, small animals such as Netherland dwarf rabbits might except from your yard because of their ability to jump. If this ever happen, the rabbit might get lost or even get itself in danger by exposing itself to possible predator animals such as birds or dogs. This is obviously the kind of situation we want to avoid.

You probably worried that one day your bunny might jump out of the fence when you're letting it out to play around the yard and for some fresh air. A safer way to let your bunny out and get some exercise is by using an exercise pens. This can help to prevent your bunnies from running away when you get them outside.
